The New Mexico Diabetes Advisory Council (DAC)
The New Mexico Diabetes Advisory Council (DAC) was formed
in September 1993 to address the serious issues facing New
Mexicans with diabetes. The DAC comprises a broad spectrum
of individuals and groups concerned with diabetes. The general
membership is now over 500 and is made up of nurses, dietitians,
physicians and representatives from clinics, pueblos, educational
institutions, organizations and others.
An Executive Committee and a Core Council serve as the leadership
body of the DAC.
The mission of the DAC is to reduce the burden of diabetes
on individuals, families, communities, the health care system
and the state by:
- Increasing public and provider awareness of diabetes
- Advocating for legislation, policies and programs to
improve access to care and to improve the treatment and
outcomes for people with diabetes
- Representing public and private partners to coordinate
activities that promote quality of care for people with
diabetes
- Serving in an advisory capacity to the New Mexico Department
of Health Diabetes Prevention and Control Program
